I'm visiting the USA at the moment and the Ford Flex for me is a real head turner, but I haven't seen much love for the Ford Flex on here, it seems like a very Jalop vehicle, a brown AWD station car (I really don't see it as a crossover). Is there something massively wrong with it?
Ford is not very generous with the configurator. I'd get a brown one with black roof/wheels and a white interior, but that is not allowed

We almost bought one. We ended up with a Durango though. I call the Flex the Harry Potter car. It's bigger on the inside than it is on the outside.
With the EcoBoost and AWD it is a freaking HOT ROD! Something that big should not move that fast.
It doesn't get as much love as it should. Some of that may be that it's quite expensive when it's optioned out.

Definitely has some love, but it's a dirty, unspoken love we're only honest about in the bedroom. It's the bedroom pacifier of automobiles.

It's shame this is so overlooked. The Ecoboost model will F-ing haul.
I happen to think it's a great car, but my finance department does not agree with me. She says it's too big, and ugly.

Lack of third pedal. They should put the engine from the SHO in it if they don't already

In Sport or Limited trim, they are seriously cool looking IMO:

It comes down to "Too big, too expensive, too limited in its use."
For the same price as a Flex, one can have a slightly used Expedition. While you may give up a small amount of interior space, you gain a correct body on frame construction and correct part time 4WD system for heavier use. The Flex can only tow 4500lbs, and the Expedition up to 9000lbs.
Also, if you are looking at new, the biggest problem the Flex has is the Explorer. The Explorer is only ~$1500 more, and tows more (5000lbs), seats the same (up to seven), only takes a 1MPG hit on the EPA test, and doesn't look like the retro interpretation of an old Volvo 240 Estate.
And on the other side, if you don't want a third row of seats, what exactly is wrong with the Ford Edge? Looks a bit more normal, can be slightly cheaper, and again, doesn't look like the retro interpretation of an old Volvo.
Don't mistake me, I like the Flex (I've had one as a rental before), but Ford looks to be doing their best to sabotage their own sales by placing two very similar cars at almost exactly the same price in their range, and then calling one of them "Explorer"

Never driven one (Live in Norway), but I must admit it's a looker :)

yea that thing with the ecoboost can almost match a WRX in 0-60. Its on the top of my list for my wifes Escpae replacement.

Wouldn't that make it the Ford TARDIS?
Looks about the same too...

I like them! I rented one (by accident) a couple years ago and thought it was damn nice. It rode great, had a super nice interior, and was decently quick. I can only imagine how much I would like the turbo Flex...
Also, people turn the wick up on these pretty often and they get downright fast!

I laugh that for Flex the most rigid looking vehicle sold in America. The next model will be called the 'Irony.'

I actually have a brown Ford Flex, and I must say, it has been a wonderful car. The interior makes the inside of a suburban seems claustrophobic. It is also quite comfortable and gets reasonable gas mileage.

It's funny looking. And big. Like 13/10th scale.

We're thinking of buying one. We want it in Deep Impact Blue, with a silver roof. Wish I could afford one with the Ecoboost engine.
